Abstract Art

Abstract art is a form of expression that appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. It is characterized by the fact that the pictorial design means in their representation partly completely removed from the real nature or abstracted from the object. The works show things in only suggested or non-representational forms. Shortly after 1900, the first sculptors and painters moved away from the real depiction of the world. One famous artist of this style was Wassily Kandinsky, who laid the theoretical foundation for the then new movement with his 1910 essay "On the Spiritual in Art". Another pioneer of this direction was the painter Francis Picabia.

In terms of representation, this style of art offers many more options than representational art forms. While in previous centuries only animals, people, landscapes and buildings were depicted in detail, here the artist has a much greater freedom to bring his ideas and feelings on the canvas. In this artistic expression, the artist wants to depict the inner worlds, which are more complex than the visually perceived outside world. Thus, the viewer is invited to deal more intensively with the creation as well as the world. Because then he can find out what the artist wanted to express with his work. The material used, shapes and colors are considered essential building blocks of abstract art.
