In his creative period of 1916 and 1917, the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani devoted himself to nude painting. One of the 30 controversial paintings that emerged during this period is nude on a blue cushion. The central element of the picture is an unclothed woman, who faces the viewer openly and defiantly. She shows luscious breasts, part of her shame can be seen. The right arm of the woman rests on a blue pillow, which stands out visibly from the body and the background. It is the only element that can distract the gaze from the woman. Her left hand gently touches her face. Modigliani gave his models a lot of freedom in choosing their poses. The then society was often too revealing the file and won acceptance long after Modigliani's early death at the age of 36 years.
