Egon Schiele presents a reclining nude on a radiant, strongly yellow background. The artistically delicate lines gently approach the depicted female subject. Fine accents in blue and red challenge the viewer to approach the reclining woman. Her look is a response. The black and white striped coat is open and exposes the back facing. Schiele points to desire and desire with emphatic and empathic sensuality. His art was always considered subjective and controversial. His gaze, his work and his life were an impertinence to his contemporaries. He unreservedly puts femininity, sensual eroticism and sexual desire at the center of his work. Thus, the smock may also be interpreted as a symbol of the conservative sexual morality of his time. This work challenges the viewer to face his desires, his hidden desires and allow them to be genuine, subjective experiences. Because, to conclude with Egon Schiele's words: "Even the erotic artwork has holiness." (Sketchbook 1911)
