For works of art in Venice you can not miss Giovanni Antonio Canals (1697-1768). The artist named Canaletto fascinates with precise depictions, precise details and fantastic colors, as his painting "View of the Piazzetta and the basin of San Marco in Venice" proves. The spectator looks at St. Mark's Square with Campanile, Doge's Palace and Bridge of Sighs. The centrally set, almost photographically reproduced buildings are in the last evening light. Above it rises a pink-sky-blue sky, which in turn reflects on the Grand Canal. The main focus, however, Canaletto has placed on the swarm of ships and gondolas, which determine the lower third of the image. Here is traded, haggled and worked: the water is the uniqueness of this city! Symbol of prosperity and life in Venice is a powerful sailing ship with red oars, anchored directly in front of St. Mark's Square.
