Nestled in the Salzkammergut lies the greenish shimmering Lake Attersee, nestled in the mountainous landscape of Austria. At the end of the 19th century, the impressive landscape attracted Vienna's sophisticated society to the mountains. The Attersee became the summer meeting place of intellectuals and industrialists. Among the regularly returning summer guests is also Gustav Klimt. The well-respected painter impressed with portraits, which clung to a mysterious and erotic aura. In summer, the artist became a landscape painter. Gustav Klimt created no fewer than 45 paintings during his stays. The painting of the farmer's garden with sunflowers was created in the period around 1906. Records from the artist's holiday period point to regular holidays in which times were planned for painting. Depending on the weather, the artist went out into nature or chose a motif from his window.
