Everyone knows it: the girl at the table with the milk jug in her hand. On the left of it, Vermeer's famous window, dominant in the room, the typical colors of blue and yellow. Everyone also knows that Jan Vermeer van Delft was reluctant to fulfill the demands of his clients to paint the famous personalities of his hometown - they had little artistic appeal for him. But eventually the painter had to feed his family. He fought for his style, his proportions, the composition. He painted, in months of laborious work. He produced two pictures a year. Fortunately, he let himself be carried away to a painting like the Milkmaid. The composition is masterful, in addition to the main character the viewer sees the most diverse objects in the picture. And there is so much to discover: the folds of the sleeves and the skirt, the blue-and-white Delft tiles on the skirting board, the light reflections on the bread, the play of colors on the clay jug.
