French artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres daringly reversed Renaissance classics in the 19th century. It can be assigned to romanticism or neoclassicism. Although the talented painter and graphic artist remained with the traditional technique of his craft, but skillfully mixed a new dimension of experimental and seductive sensuality on his paintings: flawless body, idealized facial features and a perfectly illusionist materiality are the hallmarks of his painting. His success was also in the idea of ??complex moral, exotic and even erotic topics. On a visual level, his works of art achieve a pleasingly compelling aesthetic effect. Ingres, with the portrayals of graceful characters - as in his work »Spring« - sought perfect beauty. On display is a pale young woman, who in a contradictory way lascivious and almost innocent, lets water flow from a pitcher into a pond in front of her. The viewer is self-confidently invited by the sculpturally appearing female figure into a refreshing spring-like bathing game.
