A sunny summer day in Skagen in Denmark. Maria Krøyer, the wife of the painter Peder Severin Krøyer, is sitting on a deckchair, a newspaper on her knees. At her feet, her dog is sleeping rap. The second sun lounger is empty and awaits the return of the painter. In the foreground a rose bush blooms, which, like a frame, stages Maria Krøyer. The house behind it is barely visible. First fallen petals lie on the ground. Pictured is the historic Rose Alba Maxima. Even today there is a copy of this rose in the garden of the Skagens Museum.
Peder Severin Krøyer and his wife spent their summers in Skagen, Denmark. Madam Bendsen is the owner of the property, which was rented by the painter. Shown is an everyday scene from the life of the couple. The viewer feels the peace and quiet of a summer's day. In the balmy air insects are buzzing. One almost smells the scent of roses. Maria Krøyer enjoys the time in the shade, only individual rays of light permeate the idyll and make the white of the dress shine. The dog of the couple is a favorite motif of the painter, which can also be seen in other pictures by Peder Severin Krøyer. The picture was painted in 1893. It shows the influence of French impressionism on the painter. In 1895 Peder Severin Krøyer showed it in his exhibition "Sommer" in Charlottenburg. Today it hangs in Skagens art museum. nature · peace · green · people · white · flower · grass · spring · tranquility · trees
