Peter de Wint, born in 1784, is considered an important English landscape painter. His painting "Glaucester" depicts the southern English city and its impressive cathedral, located on the River Severn. This enthroned as an eye-catcher in the distance in the middle of the picture and is illuminated by the sun. However, the mighty church does not play the main role in Peter de Wint's paintings. Rather Glaucester is portrayed here as a city of work with smoking factory chimneys. In the left picture foreground you can also see a woodworker on the riverbank. Other important accents are set by the vertical mast masts of the various ships. At first glance one recognizes: Here one works and lives, whereby the river in the life of the urban population plays an important role. In this way, the river also takes up a large part of the screen as an image and delights with its shimmering water surface, which reflects the sky, landscape and boats.
