The picture I created in 1997 questions the concept of identity. It depicts a reality distorted by digitalisation and reflects the physical reaction to external influences such as technology and digitalisation. Digitalisation is increasingly and profoundly influencing the way we interact with ourselves and with each other. It is changing the way we present our identity online, how we experience emotions (via social media or virtual spaces) and even how we process and communicate information. The human aspect of this change is that while digitalisation offers tremendous opportunities, it also brings challenges, especially when it comes to maintaining our authentic selves in the midst of this transformation. With digital and ephemeral presence playing an important role nowadays, we might find that we are increasingly disconnected and disengaged from physical reality, which could lead to a fragmentation of our identity. This could also be a danger of AI, as algorithms replace the development of our own reflective and human self. Evolution may be taking a leap into unsafe and worrying ice-cold waters here. As a computer kid from the very beginning, I was very interested in computers, programming and how circuits work. The development of this digitalisation represented my subconscious in this unique piece. This allowed me to manifest and immortalise it.
