Kozo White, 110g

Kozo White paper, a plant-based image carrier from Awagami, is produced on the picturesque island of Honshu in Japan. This island hosts the renowned paper manufacturer and the mulberry tree – the natural raw material from which the traditional Kozo paper is made. This paper has shaped Japan's art scene for generations.

Awagami combines tradition and modernity in its production method: while smaller paper batches are still handcrafted, modern long screens and technical aids are used for larger quantities. A particular aspect of the manufacturing process is using spring water mixed with sustainably harvested Kozo fibers. The result is a stable, museum-quality paper weighing 110 g/m². Its naturally white color, uniform structure, and matte surface give Kozo White a natural radiance and remarkable longevity.

The plant-based nature of the paper allows subtle light transmission, enabling creative design and presentation forms beyond traditional hanging. Combined with clever lighting, the paper reveals its full potential. Whether unconventionally floating or classically framed – Kozo White blends gracefully and elegantly into any space. It's a feast for lovers of Japanese art to experience the harmony of authentic paper with painting and printmaking. Thanks to its stability, Kozo White offers ideal conditions for reproductions in photography and classic art. It is excellent for giclée prints, which impress with their exceptional color brilliance. Whether the flowing shading of ink in traditional Japanese painting, the intricate drawings of a Dürer, or sketches that document an artwork's creation process, the paper's natural flair skillfully stages them all.
