The city of Pinz is not and was not a real city, but sprang from the imagination of the artist Paul Klee. He paints the picture of the destroyed city in 1915 - in the middle of World War I. Klee was regarded as a non-political artist, but with the picture "View of the seriously threatened city of Pinz" showed how he saw the war and without officially announcing his point of view he could express how terribly he felt the damage of the war. Since the picture contains no colors it looks even darker. Nevertheless, it has a tremendous dynamic, looks imposing and lively. The surrealist style is typical of Paul Klee, which irritates the viewer. But it is precisely this 'chaos' that the image radiates that is very fascinating and captivating.
