The 'Wintered Garden' lies in the southern part of the English Isle. When I sketched this enchanting landscape on location in recent years, I was able to discover the richness of the English countryside in its purest form. This painting in the small format of 30 × 30 cm is, among other paintings, a result of this journey and was created in my studio.
The platform with the four people on it, looking down at the pond with curiosity and enthusiasm, is particularly striking. The people are depicted small in relation to nature, almost like dwarves. I would like to use this to illustrate the relationship between man and nature. The power and size of nature are gigantic for us humans, if we put them in the right perspective.
The picture was created based on a photograph from this garden. It shows a pond, a natural meadow in the foreground and trees in the background. This painting captures the splendor and fascination of nature, and the small figures on the platform remind us how tiny we are compared to the overwhelming beauty of nature.
